Tattoo-Aftercare
Treat your fresh tattoo as a wound. You want the healing process to be finished as soon as possible to avoid infections.
- Do not soak the tattoo. Avoid taking a bath, going swimming, long showers, going to the sauna.
- Keep your tattoo clean. Avoid getting it dirty.
- The skin on the tattoo is renewing itself. Do not scratch or pull off scabs. Avoid strong friction (for example by garments or bedclothes) on the tattoo, it can extend the healing process!
- Sunrays make your tattoo fade faster. Do not go to the tanning bed or sunbath until the tattoo is fully healed. After it is healed, we recommend you protect your tattoo always with a sunblocker SPF 50.
There are different understandings, varying from each tattooer, about how to take care of the tattoo in the first few days. If you already have tattoos and have had good experiences with the aftercare, stick to it.
For all the others, we recommend following procedure:
After the tattoo has been applied to your skin, the tattooer will most likely put a bandage on it. You can keep this on the skin for up to 24 hours. The bandage we use absorbs the excess of blood, wound secretion and ink. Please remove the bandage carefully and use clean warm water to rinse the tattoo. After you have washed the tattoo, dry it by dabbing it with a clean paper towel – do not rub the tattoo. Apply a thin layer of aftercare. Tattoos heal the fastest if they are not covered. But if you need to cover the tattoo because for example your shirt or bedclothes would rub it, or you are doing something which might get it dirty, cover your tattoo with a piece of plastic wrap. If you have to cover it, repeat the process of washing, drying, lotion and covering for the first 2-3 days. Do this at least twice a day so that no bacteria can develop below the plastic wrap.
After that you can apply the aftercare at least 4 times a day until the tattoo is fully healed.
